Millennium Wood
How we can create a Wood on our doorstep There is an opportunity to purchase 18 acres of land on the north edge of Cranham. If the Woodland Trust can buy this land, the new wood will become part of the Thames Chase - the local community forest. Why a new Wood ?
This wood is one of the many being planted throughout Thames Chase, the community forest of East London. Each local community is becoming involved in contributing to a vision, which will in - the 21st Century - create a forested landscape for future generations to enjoy. Importantly the woodland will protect this Green Belt land from any future built development: a concern of many local residents. Who will create this wood ?
Us - that is the Woodland Trust, working in partnership with you, your friends and neighbours, and local organisations. You will have the opportunity to help design the site, choose a special millennium feature, and even help plant the trees. In return the Woodland Trust will look after the new wood, allowing open access for quiet enjoyment. How can you Help ?
By supporting the project and telling your family and friends about it. We are not just asking local people, we are working with local authorities, businesses and organisations to make this idea become a reality. We promise to care for the wood in perpetuity, for future generations. How ?
The whole project cost will be £111,000. However, thanks to the grants from the Millennium Commission, Countryside Commission and UK Waste under the land fill tax credit scheme, and generous sponsorship from Eastern Group and Ford's of Dagenham, with another grant decision (from the Forestry Authority) still pending - the local appeal target is only £15,000 - less than 15% of the total cost. So every £5 you give will release over another £30 of funding. We can only use another funding if we raise the local appeal target of £15,000. This will not happen without your help.
